In recent weeks my daughter who suffers from endometriosis has been
told that she will need to undergo a hysterectomy thereby eliminating
any chance for child-bearing. My oldest son is now doing well after
his operation for a deviated septum. However, my youngest daughter and
youngest son still suffer from bleeding kidney and ulcers respectively.
All of the above ailments are principally due to the fact that our local,
state and federal governments are unwilling to unable to stop Condea
Vista and PPG from dumping massive amounts of pollutants, as a result
of PVC production, into the air we breathe, on a daily basis.
Although there are written laws these industries must follow, our calls
for help to state and federal officials are ignored.
We know that during negotiations our country has been opposing provisions
in the treaty to eliminate the production of dioxin by-products by the
chemical industry. Therefore, on behalf of my wife, children, the community
of Mossville and myself, I urge you to do what is incumbent upon you;
protect citizens of the world from these harmful pollutants instead
of protecting the polluters, such as Condea Vista. They claim that they
create jobs and build the economy. However, we all know that no economy
can be built with dead people.
We respectfully ask that you do the right thing, by signing a treaty
to eliminate these devastating substances, including dioxin."
Diane Prince
"At first Mossville couldn't have been a lovelier community, with clean
air and beautiful wetlands, but all of that changed when the Condea
Vista plant came to our small town. Today the plant is only about 40
feet away from us, and my family is paying a terrible price.
It may be too late for me. I may not be fortunate enough to have grandchildren
because of my own children are sick but what about other people's children?
These industries may have given me cancer, but they cannot take away
my fighting spirit. My days are marked, my time is marked, but if I
can do something before I die, my life will not have been lived in vain."

David Prince's testimony shows how people's lives - in the US and beyond - are affected by chemical pollution on a daily basis.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) "dirty dozen"
are: dioxins, furans, PCBs, hexachloro- benzene, mirex, heptachlor,
DDT, dieldrin, chlordane, toxaphene, aldrin and endrin.
