Demarcation News
2 October 2001
Transmitted from the Amazon rainforest , translation of a
handwritten letter in Deni language by the Deni in their land
(1000 km south west of Manaus, Amazon, Brazil).
This letter is for FUNAI
We are sending it on September the 30th, 2001
Our Land - Deni Land - Amazon
We are demarcating our land.
We are finishing our job.
The Deni don't want to spoil what's already done.
When will Funai begin to demarcate our land?
We want to have a date.
Until we get an answer from Funai we'll keep demarcating our land.

Presidente da FUNAI,
The Deni waited long for the demarcation.
The demarcation didn't come.
The Deni decided to do the job.
We asked CIMI, Greenpeace and OPAN to help us with the job.
We are doing the job. The others help us with transport and cooking.
The president of FUNAI told us to stop the job. We will only
stop it if FUNAI gives us a date for the formal demarcation to
begin. And we also want the demarcation that already took place
to be recognized. We already cleared borders and set signs.
We wait for an answer by the 3rd of October. If there's no answer
we'll continue with the job.
