Steve: I am on the Commandante
Sávio, a typical Amazonian vessel for our ride up
the river. We are a day and a half into our ten day journey
to Deni land. Since we left Manaus on Monday we've been
traveling around the clock, but soon the river will become
to shallow and narrow for safe passage in the dark. more

Bryan: As we sat down to dinner
on the open second deck of our boat, we sat down with ants, mosquitoes,
and about 10 varieties of insects I had never seen before. And
we all ate together. We turned off as many lights as we could,
for two reasons, I think. One, to avoid attracting more bugs.
Two, to avoid seeing which bugs we were eating with our rice and
beans. more
Ian: This is our third day aboard
the Commandte Savio, a triple decker Amazon river boat. We are
headed upstream, the river is flat, the colour of chocolate milk.
Hammocks on the centre deck swing gently with the light roll of
the ship. more
