Demarcation Diaries

18 September 2001

This morning a Urubu (a large vulture) pooped on Ademar while he was sleeping. He stood up and jumped in to the river. Then he burned his mosquito net. He put some dead meat in the bush to lure the bird and sat near by waiting. I was laughing because I thought that he was just hungry.

Then the Deni told me that if the Urubu poops on you, it is like a spell and the only way to break it is to kill the bird and throw salt on top.

He's been waiting the whole day for the Urubu which still hasn't shown up. So the spell is still not broken. We just heard from Manuel that the helicopter is still not clear.

Coincidence? No comment.
