31 October: Amazon mahogany criminals
busted - An unprecedented joint operation, between the federal
police, government officials, and Greenpeace, over the past five
days uncovered a total of 7,165 cubic metres of illegal mahogany
in the last intact forest in Para state worth almost US$7 million
on the international market. more

Demarcation News: Victory!
After a two year struggle supported by Brazilian organisations
including Greenpeace, the Deni Indians of the Brazilian Amazon
won the right to legally protect their lands from illegal logging
and industrial practices. more
