Daimler Benz successful
Profits from sales above all with public
transport systems
The Daimler Benz company's sales rose again last year by eleven per cent. As its chairman reported at its annual press conference in Berlin, only 20 per cent of the total company profit - made by its subsidiary, Mercedes Benz - still came from private cars. Production was exclusively of fuel-efficient cars doing over 115 miles to the gallon.
In 2019 roughly 60 per cent of sales were accounted for by public transport, telecommunications, and its new subsidiary, the Daimler Benz Car-Sharing company. Daimler Benz's leading position in environmentally-friendly private transport worldwide had, so the company chairman said, been apparent at the trade fair on mobility which had just come to an end. There had been great interest in the new energy-saving train and the further refined call-bus systems. Mobility consultancy to local authorities and regions had increased strongly, accounting for 15 per cent of total sales in 2019.
