NPI GLOBAL CARE INVESTMENTS CALLS FOR ACTION ON ADVERTISEMENTS
5th December 1997
Today in Kyoto, the call was made for governments world-wide to introduce global health warnings on all oil and petrol advertising.
Speaking at a conference organised by the UNEP Insurer's Initiative, Tessa Tennant of NPI Global Care Investments said:-
"This is is a precautionary measure which all governments can readily take" she said. "It is widely recognised that the transport emissions are a significant and increasing source of verious pollutants. Let's focus on this and get the message across to people in their daily lives."
Ms Tennant went on to explain:-
"This is about managing environmental risk. An informed public is essential to the success of action plans to reduce man-made emissions to `liveable' limits."
NPI is a member of the international steering committee of the UNEP Insurers Initiative. On Friday the Initiative representing over 70 insurance companies from 25 countries will present a position paper on climate change at the COP-3 meeting in Kyoto.
