Frank Kamp: 1st Mate

I was kicked out of high school when I was 17. And what does a young lad do when he gets kicked out of school? He goes to sea. I started off as a shipsboy. I was only going to do it for one trip to see what it was like to be at sea. That was 17 years ago. I worked on the ocean going salvage tugs and offshore supply vessels for ten years. Till I got fed up towing oilrigs from Borneo to the Niger river delta or bringing flarebooms to oilrigs in the North Sea to burn another I don't know how many cubic metres of gas. It just didn't seem right. So I quit doing that and joined Greenpeace. One of the campaigns I was involved in was the survey we did in the Persian Gulf Strait after the "holy oil war" in Kuwait. It was very shocking to see what oil does to our world. Preventing that from happening again we should be very careful with digging into the seabed in the search for oil. And think twice about the price we are paying for oil besides the money we pay at the gas stations.
