From: Greenpeace Ship MV Solo
Date: SAT 4-MAR-95 07:15:33 GMT -- Day 10
450 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS
The position of the Pacific Pintail at 1900 GMT was 11 degrees and 31 minutes North and 30 degrees and 1 minute West. The Pintail's speed is 13.5 knots and it is steering a compass course of 180 degrees (South). The Pacific Pintail is currently on a distance of 450 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
This dangerous transport is legitimised by the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty's promotion of nuclear power and plutonium reprocessing. Greenpeace urges en route nations to call for a ban on plutonium production at talks on the NPT in New York this coming April and to oppose indefinite extension of the Treaty. An indefinite extension of the Treaty would amount to a permanent licence to produce high radioactive wastes as currently transported by the Pacific Pintail in addition to plutonium and other nuclear bomb-usable material.
Onboard of the Solo all is well. For 3 days we have been sailing in good weather and finally the crew has a chance to do the necesarry maintance on the ship. Other than that, no news.
