GE ACTION DAY

GREENPEACE BLOCKADES FOOD PROCESSING MULTINATIONALS ACROSS EUROPE AND DEMANDS THEY PLACE ORDERS NOW FOR GENETICALLY UNALTERED GRAINS

* Prague, Czech Republic

About 8 activists dressed as rabbits with the "X" symbol on a white suit placed a big banner above the entrance of Nestle's headquarters. The banner said: "Today Nestle - tomorrow Ne"X"tle?; Stop genetic e"X"periments in food!" in Czech.

The 'rabbits' refused models of GMO chocolates offered to them by a "bad" scientist. The entrance was symbolically blockaded and at the same time a delegation tried to meet the director of the company. When this was refused a letter was delivered outling Greenpeace demands and a meeting was arranged with the management.

* Paris, France

The action against Danone started at around 8am and was stopped around 3 p.m. when the police arrested all the volunteers and the climbers. Two campaigners were received by Danone's Communication director and Reglementation director for 15 minutes to tell them that they know what they have to do with consumers who will be informed if Danone is using GMO.. and they also said that they agree with segregation between GMO and no GMO soya bean. Then, they asked us to take off the banner and to stop the action. As we decided to stay, they became nervous and finally called the police around 2 h 30.

* Brussels, Belgium

In Brussels at the national headquarters of food processing multinational Unilever, Greenpeace activists built a wall of five tonnes of natural soya beans in 200 bags at the entrance to the building and unfurled a banner on the "soya wall" which read:"No genetic experiment with our food."

* Elsewhere in Europe

Hundreds of Greenpeace activists today blockaded the entrances and unfurled banners using climbers on the national offices of Unilever, Danone and Nestle in Italy, Germany, Austria, Finland, Spain, and Switzerland. The banners read: "Sell us the real things: no GE food".
