Day 40

Hi again,

Well we get to Nagasaki tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to catching up with Kazue, the Japanese campaigner who came to China on-board the MV. One of the things organised for a couple of days after we get to Japan is a march to the Nagasaki Peace Park to lay some flowers at the memorial that commemorates the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. A fitting end to this tour. 22,000 people died the day that bomb was dropped on Nagasaki and another 17,000 died in the next four months - there were in total 64,000 victims of the Nagasaki nuclear bomb.

I'm covered with goose bumps as I write this and reflect on the horrors that occurred in those two cities. I'm certain that my own personal resolve as well as our collective Greenpeace one, to stop any form of nuclear testing forever, will be strengthened 1000 fold by this ceremony at the Peace Park. It takes place on Friday which is also the last day of the CTBT talks in Geneva.

I hope that all of you who read this will give a thought to our journey to the park and all that it signifies - but mainly I hope that the delegates in Geneva will remember what nuclear testing leads to and that they have the power in their hands to free this world of all nuclear explosions for all time.

Goodnight,

Lynda.
