The new Italian Minister of the Enviroment, Senator Edo Ronchi, sent out a message to the MV Greenpeace hereafter translated. He was the first signataire of the first anti FNT motion passed by the Senate on July 1995.

Dear friends of Greenpeace,

I wish you the best for the voyage to Shangai, whose purpose is to ask China to sign, with the other Nuclear States, the CTBT, the text of which is under discussion in Geneva.

There has never been a better moment for the conclusion of a Treaty which ends one of the saddest pages of this century, the nuclear test era. Your mission and the request to meet Chinese Authorities are peaceful acts representing all those who wish for an end to nuclear tests.

I wish you a most successful journey
