Greenpeace would like to congratulate all of you out there who
joined the international protest against French nuclear testing
in the South Pacific.
Without the millions of individuals and 160 Governments who
joined in the protest, Moruroa and Fangataufa could be facing
another two nuclear explosions. Six tests were too many, but
eight is worse.
Whether you joined the internet fax protest, wrote letters,
signed petitions, joined demonstrations or simply argued against
testing with other individuals -- you helped this protest.
Special thanks to the members of the peace flotilla who sailed from all
corners of the world to Moruroa.
There are more battles ahead. China could test again in February. And
the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) is currently under
negotiation. If it is strong, it will mean a permanent ban on
all nuclear testing.
Certainly the Polynesians need much more help to protect their
ocean from contamination due to testing at Moruroa and Fangataufa.
And the French Government still has our boats -- ask your
government to demand that Chirac release the Greenpeace ships
arrested during peaceful protest.
But right now you, our supporters, deserve to celebrate what we
all have achieved, working together for a nuclear free future!
THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS!
