The Edgewater Fortune

After the crew of the Phyllis Cormack failed to reach Amchitka, Irving Stowe managed to raise funds for a faster boat, a 47 metre converted mine sweeper the "Edgewater Fortune." Remaned "Greenpeace II" She set out for Amchitka as the Phyllis Cormack was heading home, the two ships crossed paths near Vancouver Island and 4 of the Cormack's crew joined the Edgewater for the second attempt.

From the start it was a race against time, the Fortune's 28 man crew and all provisions for the voyage were scrambled together in 24 hours, after President Nixon set the deadline for the test as November 4th. The Fortune was delayed en-route by a storm and engine failure and was 1,100 kilometres from the test zone when the bomb was eventually detonated on November 6th 1971.
