Koeberg action update

The twelve Greenpeace activists arrested at Koeberg have walked free from Atlantis magistrates court wearing 'Nukes out of Africa' t-shirts.

They were fined SAR 4,000 for breaching security at the nuclear power plant and a further SAR 1,000 for failing to declare the true purpose of their visit on visa applications and for entering an unauthorised harbour.

Sounds fair to me. It's a relatively small sacrifice to make in order to highlight the massive problem that the Koeberg nuclear power plant represents for the people of South Africa.

Indeed since our action it has become clear that Eskom the owners of the power plant have not been playing by the rules. They have failed to provided the necessary safety, security and evacuation plans for the plant. So let's hope that the authorities continue in their fair mindedness and investigate that!

It's really good to know that our friends have been treated fairly and are free to go home for a well earned rest.
