I have been privileged
in my life to witness some of the most inspiring and
beautiful sights the natural World has to offer; the
mighty Amazon river; the dances of birth, life and death
on the coral reefs; oceans of perfumed bluebell flowers
stretching from horizon to horizon beneath the waking
woodlands of spring in my native home England.
Sadly, I have also borne witness to
some of the worst that humanity has to throw at the
Earth; destruction driven by arrogance, greed and indifference;
poverty; needless suffering and death.
Whereas aboriginal cultures have been
living as part of the natural system for millennia,
we, in the developed, or so call civilized
countries, have in a short space of time done inestimable
damage to the world which sustains us. It cannot continue.
Our only hope is to reach deep into
our hearts for the altruism within and to work towards
a future where we neither abuse each other nor the Earth
we inhabit.
With the World Summit on sustainable
development, we have a chance to make a real difference.
For all our futures, please, this time lets take
it.
