I hate to sound overly peppy and sappy or anything like that. It’s that horribly cliched expression again -- it is all about making a lot of noise if you want to be heard especially when you are on the periphery.
A Greenpeace-led action of setting off dozens of hand-held personal alarms outside the Earth Summit venue caught many by surprise, drove the police crazy and embarrassed government delegates especially those culprit nations who have effectively wrecked the lives of two billion of the world’s poorest by denying them clean basic energy.
At the Summit in Johannesburg, government leaders had a choice and it wasn’t a complicated choice, but rather a choice, which would bring an end to man-made degradation done to our planet home. And what did they do? They swerved away from this choice and decided to travel down the path of destruction. There was a general feeling of betrayal as all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) felt marginalised from start till end.
But, after setting off the Climate Alarm, I walked away feeling happy and said to myself -- Yee-haw, we kicked that Earth Summit's ass!
So, open up your eyes to what's going on around the world right now and bear witness to the atrocities being committed against our planet home. Fight on, fight till the end, and don’t forget to have some fun…
Kick ass along the way
