The satellitle images below depict
radical deforestation near Mariba in Para State, the site of Greenpeace's
Amazon Guardian Tour. The first was taken in 1972 - the second was taken 20
years later. A detailed study of the Brazilian Amazon is being coordinated
by Michigan State University (MSU) as part of NASA's Landsat
Pathfinder Humid Tropical Forest Inventory Project.
