Take Action: Following two years of Greenpeace research and on the ground investigations by the Brazilian environment agency Ibama, the Government of Brazil has taken unprecedented moves to stop the illegal mahogany industry in the Amazon. But the government is now under pressure from the powerful mahogany industry and needs your support to stick by their decision. Send a message to the President of Brazil congratulating them on their bold decision and ask them to stick by it.

Take action to protect the rights of forest dwellers: The traditional forest dwelling communities near Porto de Moz in the Amazona re loosing the resources of the forest which they depend on to illegal logging. They want to create a protected extractive reserve and need your help. Send a letter to the federal and state authorities demanding the urgent creation of the extractive reserve and an investigation on all the logging companies that are logging illegally in the region.

On October 2nd 2001, a death threat against Greenpeace’s Amazon Campaign Coordinator Paulo Adario was called into a house where Greenpeace campaigners live and work in Manaus in the heart of the Amazon. Take action to support Greenpeace's continued campaigning in the Amazon and increased security for all people working to protect the Amazon and its people.

Take action against Amazon deforestation
New informationn released by the Brazilian Ministry of Environment shows that uncontrolled destruction of the Amazon forest continues at an alarming rate: within a year from August 1999, deforestation increased by 15 percent. Send a letter to the President of Brazil and voice your opposition to further destruction.
