Greenpeace concerned over the disappearance of Bruno Manser The world-renowned activist for rainforest protection, Bruno Manser, has been missing since end of May. Manser was last known to be in Sarawak, Malaysia, where he has been working for many years. His foundation, the Bruno Manser Foundation, have now asked the Swiss Department of External Affairs for help in determining Bruno's whereabouts. Greenpeace asks the Malaysian Government to conduct a precise investigation into the reasons for Bruno's disappearance and take drastic measures, if violence has been used against Bruno Manser. At present, it is uncertain whether Bruno is lost, injured, detained, hiding to protect himself or even dead. During six years Bruno Manser lived with the Penan, an indigenous peoples living in the Sarawak rainforest northwest of Borneo. With this indigenous community, Bruno has seen the consequences of rainforest destruction and violation of human rights. As a result of his experiences, he has fought with dedication for the rights of the Penan and against the destruction of the rainforests. He was never afraid of risks and went to Malaysia in spite of a ban of entry against him and a reward for his capture. Greenpeace has a high respect of his engagement and dedication to Penan and against rainforest destruction. For more information and to find out what you
