Crashing Through the Back Door -
GE
Crops in Animal Feed
Most of the European retailers and food producers have chosen
not to use genetically engineered (GE) crops in their products.
But that has not stopped the flood of GE crops to Europe.
Thousands of tonnes of GE-crops are imported to Europe to
be used in animal feed, mainly from the US.
Pork,
beef and poultry (chicken and turkey) we buy in supermarkets
could have been fed with GE feed but there is no way to find
out. Since there are still no labelling regulations for animal
fodder in the European Union, it is impossible for farmers
to avoid animal feed containing GE-ingredients.
