JOB TITLE: EUROPEAN MEDIA OFFICER
LOCATION: Brussels
Overall Purpose:
To actively promote the aims and objectives
of the organisation and its campaigns through media and other public and
private communications channels in Brussels.
Main responsibilities:
As part of the European Unit you will
be expected to work in close co-operation with Greenpeace International
Communications, Campaign and Political departments and develop a strong
working relationship with Greenpeace’ European National Offices.
As the Brussels based Communications specialist
to be responsible for advising campaigners on the potential media impact
of European releases, actions and briefings and their timing and suitability
within the context of the European agenda.
To initiate and supervise the production
of imaginative and effective communications to all media. (This will include
media events and opportunities, press releases, briefings and support materials).
To develop Communications Strategies and
Media Plans within the EU context.
To act as a Greenpeace’ spokespersons in
European Affairs
Tasks and other responsibilities:
1. Internal relationships
The EU media Officer co-ordinates common
work with Greenpeace International Comms Chief Press Officer (CPO) and
Comms people of European NROs (EU NROs and others like Czech Republic,
Switzerland, Russia and the Mediterranean Office)
2. External Relationships
To ensure Greenpeace maintains and develops
extensive media contacts and relationships with Brussels based media.
3. Distribution
Develop and maintain selective and targeted
distribution lists for all media types and channels in Brussels.
4. Quality
To deliver highly effective, timely, focused
and strategic output for Greenpeace campaigns
5. Editorial Output
To be responsible for the media output
of Greenpeace Brussels based media.
To provide media advice and operational
reports to the Communications Director, Chief Media Officer and Brussels
EU-Unit Head.
To advise and evaluate the effectiveness
of GPI campaigns media exposure.
6. Financial
Reporting to the European Unit Head, you
will be responsible for ensuring that all work undertaken is within budget
and other financial guidelines.
7. Confidential Information
Maintain high level of confidentiality,
given access to detailed information relating to Greenpeace.
Working Conditions
The position is based in Brussels, but
on occasions you will be required to work away from this office.
The pace of work is often high and whilst
every effort is made to maintain reasonable office hours, flexibility is
required according to the demands of the job within a campaigning organisation.

As a Greenpeace staff member, a Media
Officer is expected to maintain a high commitment to furthering Greenpeace’s
campaign goals through their own work. You will have the option, at your
discretion, to participate in Greenpeace campaign actions.
