Overall Purpose:
To develop and implement strategic campaign
plans within the international community;
To be responsible for the international
dimension of the respective campaign, primarily in the legal, policy and
political spheres;
To act as principle representative of
Greenpeace in relation to governments, international media, agencies and
officials.
Activities:
Strategy development and advice
Leads, contributes or assists in the development
and implementation of strategies aimed and achieving campaign goals;
Maintains excellent knowledge of political,
scientific, economic, commercial and other developments in relation to
designated campaign areas;
Maintains an overview of relevant developments
in related political and scientific areas in order to be able to initiate
or respond to international legal, scientific and policy developments,
both in the short and long term;
Identifies potential new areas of political
campaigning;
Communicates information and assessments
within Greenpeace on external developments in relation to campaigns and
generally establish the position as a source of timely targeted political
advice to the organization and prepares documents and presentations;
Prepares or reviews submissions to the
main international fora;
Leads (or plays senior part in) the organization’s
representation on the issues at intergovernmental and corporate forums,
where the issues are addressed;
Works with the Communications Department
to ensure appropriate media coverage at intergovernmental and corporate
for a, where the issues are addressed;
Advises strategically selected decision-makers,
e.g. Government Ministers and representatives, in order to influence such
for a and advance the campaign objectives;
Leads, guides, supports and/or trains
National and Regional Office campaigners. Advisors on political strategy
and policy issues.
Networking
Develops extensive contacts and relationships
with government and intergovernmental coalitions of support for Greenpeace
issues and positions, scientists, policy makers, ministers and industrial
concerns;;
Networks with other NGO’s and indigenous
peoples where appropriate.
Skills/ qualifications required:
Detailed knowledge of and extensive experience
in the campaign issues
Leadership abilities
Ability to represent the organization
at high political levels and in the media
Experience in international political
and commercial decision making processes
Communication and negotiation skills,
political awareness and networking ability
Fluency in written and spoken English,
preferably fluent in other official languages of international organizations
Basic computer skills (word processing,
communications)
