Young people all over the world are standing up for our planet's last ancient forests, and you can too.

There are seven big intact ancient forests. We need to put these "treasure chests of the Earth" under full protection.

Over 80 percent of the ancient forests originally in existence have already been destroyed. Giant trees from the Amazon end up as plywood boards and trees thousands of years old are boiled down to pulp, just to make everyday products.

Kids and young people all over the world are saying "NO" to ancient forest destruction, and together with Greenpeace they have launched Kids for Forests. The project is currently active in more than 15 different countries in Europe, Asia, North America and South America where young people are standing up for the protection of the Earth's last ancient forests.

And, by the way: this is not the first time that Kids for Forests all over the world have stood up for the protection of the ancient forests. In 2001 and 2002, more than 35,000 kids and young people were fighting to save the ancient forests all over the world. More than 1,000 came to the Ancient Forest summit in The Hague, Netherlands - an important international UN-conference - they handed over petitions signed by more than 240,000 people, and called on politicians to take action at last. "Stop talking!" was their message. Act now!

The politicians promised to stop the die-off of species worldwide by 2010 - but they still haven't even begun. Fortunately, however, environmentalists all over the world - including Kids for Forests! - are seeing to it that, bit by bit, the ancient forests are being saved.

In other words, it's high time that we remind politicians what their job is. Soon we have an ideal chance to do that: the next international conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the CBD (Convention on Biological Diversity) in February 2004. Kids for Forests is starting up a worldwide protest to remind politicians of their promises and responsibilities as "keepers of the forest treasures".

The Kids for Forests have fought like tigers for the last two years, and they will show their claws again and say: Stop talking! Act now!
