>> GREENPEACE GETTING READY FOR "SOLAR REVOLUTION" IN
CANADA'S NORTH - Climate Change Expert To Visit Yellowknife
For Crucial Workshop
TORONTO, April 4, 1996 (GP) Greenpeace campaigner Kevin
Jardine, an international expert on the impact of climate
change on Canada's North, will visit Yellowknife from April 9
to 12th. Jardine will be participating in a renewable energy
workshop, to be attended by all the major players in
government and industry. The workshop is designed to plan a
renewable energy strategy for
Canada's North, where climate change threatens already fragile
ecosystems.
Jardine is the author of "The Carbon Bomb: Climate Change and
the Fate of the Northern Boreal Forests", a Greenpeace report
published in 1994. He has been sent to Yellowknife by
Greenpeace International to investigate options for promoting
solar power in Canada's North. Long summer days make the North
an attractive location for launching such a campaign.
Jardine will be available for interviews during his visit to
Yellowknife. Attached is short summary of Greenpeace's
concerns about the impact of climate change in the North and
our hopes for solar power.
