"Broken Promises" a comprehensive new report comparing promises
made by British Columbia's government to what is really happening
in the province's forests, will be released in Victoria, Toronto,
at the United Nations, and in numerous European cities on Monday.

The report contains extensive evidence gathered from
investigations in the forest and data culled from government
documents, that have not yet come to public attention. It will
reveal specific examples of how the province's so-called "world
class" forest regulations have not been enforced; the extent of
clearcutting in areas where the practice has been prohibited; the
inadequate protection provided by the province's much publicized
new park system; and the imminent danger posed to threatened
species like Grizzly Bears and Pacific Salmon.

"Broken Promises" also reveals new information, obtained through
the Freedom of Information Act, that outlines what the B.C.
government has done and how much it has spent to counteract
growing international concern over B.C.'s forests.

In addition, the report contains recent polling regarding current
public opinion and expectations regarding B.C. forest practices.

The release of "Broken Promises" comes as logging companies
prepare to start clearcutting in the Great Bear Rainforest, one
of the largest remaining pieces of ancient temperate rainforest
left in the world.
