Activists protest in front of
1st plutonium ship, Pacific Pintail,
in Panama Canal.
2nd Plutonium Ship, Pacific Teal, Transits Panama Canal on Tuesday
(May 14) night
The Pacific Teal arrived at the Pedro Miguel lock (second lock of three,
in
the middle of the transit) at 10:05 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, and then
proceeded on its way to the next lock (Miraflores) and the Pacific Ocean
exit. It can be assumed that the Teal exited into the Pacific in the
early morning of Wednesday, May 15.
This news seems to have originated from a reporter. Raul Escoffery received
the news and went and witnessed the Teal in the Pedro Miguel lock. The
Panama Canal Administration's public relations office said that they
would issue a press release on the transit of the Pintail and Teal but
they have not, as yet, done so. http://www.pancanal.com
The debate in the environment committee of the legislative assembly on the law banning all nuclear transits was to have taken place today (Wednesday 15) but has once again been postponed.
Raul Escoffery, an inspired acivist, has published the excellent Spanish language resource book "Transito de Material Radioactivo por Panama" (found at http://www.geocities.com/raul_escoffery/pntl), printed by the Asamblea Legislativa of Panama.
