Off the coast of Japan

24 June 2002

The Arctic Sunrise will arrive at port tomorrow morning. We'll dock in Tsuruga, and hopefully will get to go to shore as soon as we are done with the day's work.

Most likely the nuclear material has been loaded into a steel cask for transport by now. However, it is uncertain how soon the BNFL ships will head out.

Sea.
For many of the crew, this is our first visit to Japan. Even though we wish it were under better circumstances we are all looking forward to seeing a little of the Fukui prefecture and meeting some of the local activists.

Right now though, we are going through some slightly bad weather. Nothing serious or out of the ordinary. The wind is at about 20 knots (36km/hour), and on the sea disturbance scale, which goes from zero to nine, it's about a five.
