I have been with Greenpeace for nine years. I joined the local group in my hometown, then got involved with the German action-team, fighting for the environment both in Germany and in other countries. Since 1996 I've been sailing as a deckhand, as well as studying social work (which finished last summer).
What I love most about being a deckhand and being out at sea, is the beautiful feeling of being surrounded by the ocean, while helping save the last bits and pieces of wilderness we have left in the world.
Besides the sea, forests are the most special places on earth to me. Unfortunately we have destroyed most of our forests in Europe and elsewhere. Our desire for further resources is just about to destroy the last remaining, untouched areas left in the world.
I strongly believe that saving them is a word-wide task we have to approach not only from those countries that are home to the last remaining forests, but also on an international level, and as consumers we must take personal responsibility.
