Ship Spotting
Help Us be the 'Eyes of the World'
Pacific Pintail and Pacific Teal docked at Barrow-in-Furness 09:00 (BST)
Tuesday 17th September.
The two ships below (Pacific Pintail and Pacific Teal), owned and run
by BNFL, departed Takahama Japan, 4 July 2002 for Sellafield UK, laden
with their deadly cargo of faulty plutonium waste material that the
same ships had delivered in 1999.
BNFL's deadly flotilla endangers people and the environment throughout
the world. The ships' regular voyages could make them the target of
terrorists and any radioactivity released into the sea would be devastating
for coastal communities dependent on tourism and fishing. Dozens
of countries have objected to these ships and their lethal cargos
passing through their waters.
Greenpeace along with 80 governments, many thousands of individuals
and courageous and committed seafarers driven by their love of the sea,
have sounded the alert globally to shine the spotlight on the inherent
dangers of such unnecessary shipments. Our wish is that those responsible
for the shipments see the light and never again risk our health and
security and the marine environment to perpetuate the life of the inefficient,
uneconomic and downright dangerous nuclear industry.
