  • Market country - China is seen as an emerging market for toothfish. . However, China is not a member of CCAMLR and has no requirement to abide by any restrictions or the newly agreed Catch Documentation Scheme (CDS).
  • International trade - China is also becoming a major player in the trade of pirate-caught toothfish. In the first half of 1999, China was the source for 10% of toothfish imports into Japan and the US.
