The Gallery has the latest photographs from Greenpeace's Southern Ocean Pirate Expedition as well as library pictures of known pirate fishing vessels and the region's wildlife.

Curtis Barnett, mate on board the M/V Arctic Sunrise, unhooks and frees a Patagonian toothfish that had been caught on a pirate vessel's longline in the Southern Ocean. Greenpeace confiscated 5 kilometers of illegal on 20 March 2000, and freed 58 toothfish, also known as Chilean Sea Bass, in the process.

Greenpeace demands a moratorium on fishing for Chilean Sea Bass until the problem of pirate fishing in the Southern Ocean can be brought under control. Click on the image to view a larger photograph and check out the action gallery for more pictures from our Southern Ocean Expedition.
