Name: Carmen
Position on board: Logistics co-ordinator trainee
Nationality: New Zealand
History with Greenpeace: I have been working with Greenpeace for approximately 6 and a half years. I started when I was at secondary school by joining the Greenteam. This was a network of school students throughout New Zealand who helped Greenpeace with their campaigns by writing letters etc. I attended a Greenteam conference in 1995 to learn about campaigning. Part of the training was an action role-play. I completely loved and knew instantly that I wanted to be a Greenpeace activist.
From there on I volunteered with the action unit and then got a paid job as an action coordinator and have kept going ever since.
Favourite Forest Experience: During a recent protest I spent a very cold night on the deck of the MV Agat. To keep warm Timo and myself had to shelter amongst the large azobe logs. In an attempt to keep our spirits up during the coldest part of the night, Timo raved on about the importance of the forests and why we were there. It was amazing to be so connected to the logs while doing an action to protect the forests.
What like best about the Esperanza: Sue and Jo cooking us amazing food everyday.
