Daniel.

Name: Daniel

Position on Board: Deckhand

Nationality: Swiss

History with Greenpeace: My first degree was in being a draftsman (making plans for industrial machines, etc.). My other degree is as a specialist for nature and environment (knowledge of ecology and the technical and legal aspects of environmental issues).

I was a volunteer for Greenpeace for three and a half years. Now I work as an action coordinator for Greenpeace Switzerland. I am spending a month and a half on the Esperanza to learn the nautical side of Greenpeace.

Greenpeace, for me, is a tool towards the good of planet. The forests need to be saved because they are big ecological systems. If we loose them we loose something very valuable. The loss of biodiversity is also a loss for humans. If a species is lost, you cannot bring it back. I am here to fight against this destruction.

This is my first trip on a Greenpeace ship so I do know much yet about ship actions. My favourite land action is when we took a seven-ton log from a sawmill, and put in front of the Swiss parliament to prompt them to act at the Ancient Forests Summit in April.
