Name: Mike
Position on Board: Radio operator
Nationality: British
History with Greenpeace: I started sailing with Greenpeace in October 2000, on the Arctic Sunrise. In 2001, I was on the final tour of the MV Greenpeace. This, the first tour for the Esperanza, is my third tour.
I hadn't worked with Greenpeace before joining the ships, although I have been active in other parts of the Green movement for over ten years.
About the Esperanza: It's wonderful to be able to sail with the Esperanza, we've all put a lot of time, effort and dreams into her, and I hope we make her a suitable vessel for our ideals and the support we receive from members everywhere.
Why this campaign is special: The forest campaign is important to me for many reasons. When I was a young boy I had wonderful woods to explore and enjoy, and I have come to value forests even more as I have learned how essential they are for supporting life on our little planet. I love them for the great variety of life they contain, and their amazing beauty. Forests are so much more than the trees.
I pity anyone who can look at a forest and only see timber, toilet paper and profits.
