The Warrior takes a nose dive

Bucking Warrior

By Lesley, assistant cook. 9 April. Well folks, this is the meanest horse I've ever been on! The Warrior is charging through the Atlantic like crazy and we are hitting the waves head on. That means that we nose dive and tail up every five seconds. Sometimes it feels like we will never get our nose out of the water and sometimes like our tail will never come out of the sky.

Now, even a mad, unbroken horse will give up bucking after, what…four hours tops? The bucking Warrior has been keeping this up for the last 24 hours and doesn't even look tired.

OK, so now we are in the Atlantic, we sorta figured that the waves would be bigger than the Mediterranean, but this is ridiculous.

Mind you, standing on the bridge deck at the stern of the ship is great fun. You hold on to the engine hatch and then stare through the bridge windows at the bow and wait for 'the big one'. When that comes, which it does at regular intervals, you see the bow of the ship completely disappear into the sea, and you are much much higher as the stern goes up into the air. A few milliseconds later the bow flies up and you go down. Think about a huge roller coaster (I'm back to Disney World again) and then wonder what it would be like to be on it for 24 hours!

Cooking is great fun too. I have to wedge myself between the sink unit and the cupboard, bend my knees to keep my balance and then continue to wash and chop up a ton of fresh parsley to put into little pots and freeze. Luckily my knees are quite bouncy and I haven't stabbed myself or emptied the barrel of parsley over my head. But then I haven't finished the job yet and anything could happen.

Catcha later

Les
