Haussy

Name: Haussy

Position on Board: Electrical Engineer

Nationality: Mainland Kiwi (South Island New Zealand, for those who aren't sure)

History with Greenpeace: I began working on the ships for Greenpeace in February 2001, although I have been a long time supporter & admirer of their work, so I am very new & inexperienced in the type of campaign involvement that we have based from the ships. I still find it hard to believe that I am here doing what I am doing but believe me I intend to make this a long term arrangement. My first trip was in support of the "Stop Star Wars" campaign based in the Marshall Island group in the Pacific, a group of atolls very much on the receiving end of the U.S. Star Wars testing program & now I am part of the S.V. Rainbow Warrior's Mediterranean tour bringing many issues to the media's & hence the world's attention including the dumping of toxic pollutants, importation of genetically modified organisms & now the importation of ancient forest wood into Europe with our Ancients Forest campaign.

Personally I could not ask for a better platform to express my distaste at the human race's degradation of the Earth & have it be seen by such large audience.

Favorite Forest or Best Tree Experience: Anytime I am able to spend time in a forest of the old natives is a real plus for me as it is always a time of play mixed with rest, a feeling of serenity & a true sense of belonging. Prior to joining the ship, this time, a good friend of mine gave me the opportunity to visit some very special ancients in Northland (North Island N.Z.) These huge Kauri trees in their full glory gave me a feeling of being in the company of a truly old & wise soul. The best known of these trees "Tane Mahuta" (the God of the Forest) stands over 51m tall & is over 1200 years old.Think about it, once these ancient natives of our lands go, with them vanish all that they support, including a part of us!
