10 March, 12:00pm. As the protest against the African log ship
Meltemi continued into its third day, crew members raised
the Warrior's new forest sails. The sails depict the 'seven magnificent'
iconic species at risk of extinction in the world's remaining
ancient forests.
4 March, 9:00pm. Sete, France. Seven activists have boarded the
vessel Meltemi off the French port of Sete in the Mediterranean.
The activists are documenting the ship's cargo: hundreds of logs
from ancient forests in Liberia bound for buyers in Europe.
27 February, late. We have just been overpowered by police forces.
Around 1715 hours two police boats, four zodiacs and a Navy tug
boat steamed out of the Sete harbour. They quickly surrounded
the Agia Irene and set to work removing two activists from
the anchor chain. The police cut the fuel line on one of our zodiacs
and threw canisters of tear gas into the boats.
25 February, 5:15am. Greenpeace activists have departed the
Rainbow Warrior on inflatable boats and are bound for the
Agia Irene. The Agia Irene, anchored only a few
kilometres away outside the port of Sete in southern France, is
carrying hundreds of logs from Liberia's tropical forests.
