Future developments
- Reduce leased line charges:
- VPN circuits between offices using encryption on Linux Black Box servers
- Firewalling on these BB's, so that direct access to Internet is possible from each of these offices
- Disadvantages:
- Difficulties in negotiating with local ISP's on best deal for a browse-only leased line
- Requires greater attention by local IT staff
- Lack of control over bandwidth and response times
- Poking holes through the main hub firewalls, even if encrypted
