DOWN TO ZERO BOAT TOUR
Regular Updates from the Crew aboard the Ship, MV Greenpeace.

AUGUST 19 - HEADING SOUTH AGAIN:

Two days ago around 200 people in Longyearbyen came onboard the MV for our last open boat in Svalbard out of a population of approximately 1200.

The open boats in Svalbard had a large turnout of people given the small population. People on Svalbard are obviously concerned about the impact of toxic pollution on their environment.

Now we are sailing en route to main land Europe to raise further awareness of Arctic pollution and to remind governments and industry that they should take responsibility for stopping the pollution. We are looking forward to experiencing sunset and darkness for the first time since we arrived in Svalbard 12 days ago....

The now self proclaimed Bard onboard waxes lyrical once again:

    On station Island sampling,
    a polar cub we found,
    but science in its wisdom,
    disturded its final ground,
    Surrounded by his nature,
    in the crisp Artic air,
our white furred friend had dignity,
    while facing the reapers stare,
On a bed of moss and lichens,
    he lay himself to die,
    knowing that his spirit,
    would
    raise and soar and fly,
    and once again reunite
with that great bear in the sky.
