27 2001: GREENPEACE CALLS ON EU TO STOP GREENWASHING WASTE ISSUE
New Report Confirms Health Concerns over Incineration (Download

| The
amount of waste of all kinds produced by human societies is increasing in
quantity. Therefore strong political and industrial measures are urgently
needed to change this trend. Incineration is not the solution: it is part
of the problem. Incinerators reduce the volume of solid waste but they do not make the problem of toxic substances in the waste disappear - incinerators emit a wide range of pollutants in their stack gases, ashes and other residues: for example, they are still the number one source of dioxins world-wide. The filters used to clean incinerator stack gases also produce solid and liquid toxic wastes. |
Incineration is NOT the way forward to Clean Production. Indeed, it is an obstacle
to clean production as some industries and governments see incineration as an
easy way to get rid of their wastes, instead of looking into the products and
the processes, in order to avoid toxics production in the first place.
But opposition to incinerators is growing world-wide. There is no room for incineration
of wastes in a sustainable society.
LETS STOP INCINERATION!
