TOUR LOGBOOK

15 March 2000 - Rainbow Warrior Arrives in Hong Kong

Hong Kong – The Rainbow Warrior, Greenpeace’s world famous flagship, has arrived in Hong Kong for a two-week visit on the fourth leg of her Asia tour to promote a toxic free future.
Arrival in Hong Kong

The tour, which began last December, has brought the vessel to India, Thailand, and the Philippines, to expose pollution hotspots and promote alternatives and solutions. In Hong Kong, the ship will be used to highlight relevant toxic issues and promote the urgent need for clean production, proper waste management and sustainable development.

Before arriving in Hong Kong, the Rainbow Warrior was campaigning in the Philippines, demanding the US government to clean up the legacy of toxic and persistent poisons left behind by their former bases in Clark and Subic. The
three-mast schooner Rainbow Warrior has a long and rich history of international campaigns for environmental justice.

The new Rainbow Warrior replaces the original ship that was sunk by the French secret service in 1985 amid worldwide protests against French nuclear testing in the Pacific. She was launched on July 10, 1989, the anniversary of the sinking of her predecessor. The Rainbow Warrior will be open to the public on 25th and 26th March before leaving for Japan.
