Alain Deckhand France

Hi, I'm Alain, from Hyeres, a city near Marseille, on the Med coast.

I'm 35 years old and I'm making my third trip on a Greenpeace ship as a deckhand.

I joined Greenpeace 2 years ago in Lyon's local group where as was involved as a volunteer in the toxic campaign. I have a masters degree in chemistry, and working on this campaign was an obvious choice for me.

Why I joined Greenpeace? Because I do believe that treating and using the nature as we're doing now, I mean as a kind of supermarket, is heading us towards a wall. There's something really wrong in human behaviour about the environnement.

I want for everyone the right to leave on a clean earth, breathing a clean air and not being afraid of being poisoned by the foods and the water they're using. I thing it's one of the most basic right that each of us have.

I'm also scared by the legacy we're going to left behind us, what kind of world are we going to give to our kids... That's why we try to change this, waking up humanity common sense and getting the human race in a fair world.

It's going to be the first time for me to go to Iceland, I'm kind of excited by this campaign, It was the first trip of the first Rainbow Warrior, and we're going back! Somehow this is making in me a sad feeling, it means that things didn't change at all. But I do have the hope that it will be the last visit of the Rainbow there about whaling.
